DISCOVER THE HOLY SPIRIT

Discover with your Family

Gather your family and ask these questions of everyone…

Have you ever seen a dove? What do they look like? Sound like?

What is the strongest wind you have ever felt? What were you doing? How did you feel?  Did you look to find some shelter?

When is a time you felt a comforting breeze?  What were you doing?  How did you feel?

Do you enjoy looking into a campfire?  What do you like about it? What does it feel like near a fire? Sound like?  Smell like? Have you ever tasted food cooked over a fire? What does it taste like?

Discover through the Bible

There are many times that we see the Holy Spirit in the bible. In the Old Testament we see the Holy Spirit come for a time and a specific purpose.  In the New Testament we see the Holy Spirit descend on Jesus like a dove when he is being baptized.

Imagine yourself into the story!

In Acts 2, we see the Holy Spirit come and stay!  Do you have a fan at your house? Put it on, and read that passage with your family.  Light a candle (with grown up supervision) when the tongues of fire are mentioned.  Can someone in your family speak another language or speak in tongues? Try that at the right time in the story.

How do you think the disciples felt?

What does having the Holy Spirit allow you to do?

Have some prayer time, praying to the Holy Spirit. What is the Holy Spirit helping you to understand?  What is the Holy Spirit guiding you to do? What is the Holy Spirit teaching you?  How is the Holy Spirit comforting you?  What else is the Holy Spirit doing in your life right now?

Discover in Nature with your Senses

Just like how you can’t see the Holy Spirit or the wind, you can’t see smell.  What is your favourite smell?  What is a smell you don’t love?

Head outside with your family and go on a smell scavenger hunt.

When you smell something beautiful, thank God for something beautiful.  When you smell something fresh, thank God for his fresh gifts that are new every morning.  When you smell something stinky, ask God for help and direction in a tricky situation in your life.  What else do you smell? What else do those smells prompt you to pray for?
