Dora and The Lost City of Gold Movie Discussion Guide

Dora and The Lost City of Gold Movie Discussion Guide

This time Nickolodeon has turned a popular animated kids show into a live action movie and it does not disappoint! This is a delightful, humourous and fun Dora adventure movie! It is truly family friendly with lots of positive message and opportunity for great conversations, including identity. This movie is about a teenage Dora adventure so will certainly appeal to tweens/older kids who grew up watching the animated show as well as younger kids. It involves kidnapping, chases and some danger but it’s not too scary so younger kids may enjoy this also. One thing to be aware of is that this movie involves Incan gods and myths, which give a great opportunity to discuss a biblical, Christian worldview.

Which of the characters did you like best? Why?

What feelings did you experience in this movie?

Discuss role models. What kind of role model is Dora? What characteristics did you see in her that you admire?

Discuss peer pressure. Dora’s parents tell her to “be yourself.” Who Dora is does not seem to fit her new life. Do you ever feel like you don’t fit in? Are there ways you feel like you have to fit in with other people even if you don’t want to? How does Dora respond to the other kids making fun of her?

Discuss friendship. What makes a good friend? What did Sammy, Randy, Diego and Dora learn about friendship and teamwork?

Other themes to discuss: bullying, courage, compassion, betrayal, grief/loss, perseverance and positivity.
