December’s Beatitude

December’s Beatitude

Blessed are those that hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.

As I reflected on this verse, I thought about a person with deep passion, hungering not only for personal righteousness but for the world around them. It seems fitting that we focus on this verse for the month of December too! Not only are we confronted with an abundance of physical feasting that could serve as a prompt to hunger and thirst for righteousness but our focus is on the incarnation of Jesus! The one person through whom we are made right and the world is made right. The one for whom we should be hungering and thirsting for more of and offering him, the Bread of Life to a world that is so desperately in need of true fulfillment. The song that immediately popped into my mind for this verse is As the Deer, an old song but one that conveys this verse so beautifully!

I wonder what songs come to your mind as your reflect on this passage? What songs are you singing in your children and family ministries that convey this?
