Kaylee Prays for the Children of the World by Helen Lee is a great look at how a grandparent and a child can pray together meaningfully. Shin Maeng does the illustrations, which inspire and draw the reader in.

Kaylee is greeted every morning by her dog who promptly goes out to pick up the newspaper.  Kaylee and her grandfather look through the pages together. Kaylee finds a photo of a boy who has been displaced due to an earthquake, and it touches her heart.  The story follows how Kaylee and her grandfather go about praying for this boy, and other children they find in the newspaper.

This story is a beautiful look at an intergenerational faith experience – prayer. The grandfather allows Kaylee to guide her own prayers with the help of the Holy Spirit, then joins in himself. What a lovely picture of faith in the family.

What a great book for snuggles and winding down! Difficult questions about hard circumstances in the world also surface, like natural disaster, war and injustice.  The book points to prayer and our loving God who loves all children.

Kaylee Prays for the Children of the World is good for school aged children.  Be ready for lots of great questions!
