Let’s Go To Jersusalem!

Let’s Go To Jersusalem!

We are on a Bible Trek Expedition as we journey back in time to explore what happens in different towns and places where Jesus was.

Our second stop is Jerusalem.

You can read about some of Jesus’ time in Jerusalem in Luke 2:23-51 and Matthew 21:12-13.

Have you ever seen a baby dedication at church?  Parents bring their baby to the church to commit themselves to parent well with God’s help.  Pray for your parents! God, help my parents to…  God, thank you for my parents…

Jerusalem is about 11km from Bethlehem.  How long would it take you to walk 11km?  What is something that is 11km from your home?

God is our Heavenly Father – a parent!  What are some things your parents or caregivers do very well?  What are your favourite times with your parents?

Jesus’ parents took him to the temple in Jerusalem to dedicate him.  Why do you think it’s important for Mary and Joseph to do this?  I wonder why your parents teach you about Jesus?

When Jesus was 12, he stayed at the temple and amazed everyone with his knowledge of scripture.  His parents thought he was lost!  He called the temple his father’s house.  I wonder what it was like for Jesus to belong with Mary and Joseph, and also belong with his heavenly father?

What is your favourite place in your church?  I wonder how you feel when you are at church? Does church feel like your father’s house?

When Jesus was 12, he experienced the temple as a place of learning.  Consider donating school supplies to your classroom or to a foodbank.

Jesus is/I am:  Say it loud!  Claim it! Jesus is part of God’s family.  I belong to God’s family, too!

Where is a place you feel you belong? What does belonging feel like? How can you help others feel like they belong, too?

Pray together. God, thank you that I belong to you. Thank you that I am your child. I praise you for …. Help me …. Amen.
