In the Fall of 2009, The Children’s and Family Missional Team, comprised of Erin Jackman, Miriam Little, Jam Mutter, Liz Shaughnessy, Deb Templemeyer and Tanya Krahn was formed by the CBOQ Board to research and assess the needs of our churches in the area of children’s ministry. Based on surveys conducted in the spring of 2010, interaction with our CBOQ family at our Annual Assembly in 2010 and 2011 and the collective experience and expertise of our team we presented the following recommendation in our report to the Board in 2011:
“We would like to recommend that the CBOQ add the position of Children and Family Ministry to our denominational leadership team. The person in this role would act as a resource, mentor and provide direction within our denomination to this critical area of ministry.”
In 2012, thanks to a generous gift from CBWOQ, a part time 3-year contract was created by the CBOQ Board.
After prayerfully discerning a calling to this role and with the support of the leadership team at Walmer Road Baptist Church, Tanya submitted her application for consideration.
On August 20, 2012, Tanya walked into the office of CBOQ for the first time as CBOQ Children and Family Ministries Associate with the mandate to develop CBOQ Kids.
Now, 10 years later not only did this become a permanent, full-time role but over the last year we were able to add MJ Clarry as part time contractor to the CBOQ Kids team!
It is a privilege and pleasure to serve God by serving our family of churches that are seeking to be thriving communities of faith investing into the lives of children and families.
I wonder what the next 10 years will bring?
